Enkei is a Swedish startup founded by Lovisa Sunnerholm and Miriam Bichsel, to turn construction and ceramic waste into new, high-quality materials that can be used in architecture and interior design. The startup announced they closed a pre-seed round at a valuation of EUR 3 million, backed by a group of individual investors - Anders Lendager, Christina Åqvist, Ulf Mattsson, Fabian Månsson, Thomas Granfeldt, and Daniel Strömberg together with RadCap (VC focused on supporting female-founded startups).
ReCeramix™ is the company’s first circular product and it looks and feels like natural stone, but it has a lower environmental impact as it's made from made from 90%+ recovered waste. It is already in use, for applications such as tabletops, window sills, and other custom elements.
“Construction produces Europe’s largest waste stream, yet the materials shaping our interiors and built environment still rely heavily on newly extracted resources. We see an enormous opportunity to transform overlooked waste into a new generation of architectural materials, keeping resources in circulation instead of extracting more,” said Lovisa Sunnerholm, CEO and co-founder of Enkei.
The team plans to use the funding to further develop its R&D efforts and accelerate the market launch of ReCeramix™, while continuing to broaden its material platform and explore new applications across architecture and interior design.
