We plan to expand the use of AI for predictive biodiversity analytics and personalized ESG impact reports - Sergey Petrov, Founder of Pollenity
Pollenity is a Bulgarian-based startup that was launched out of the desire of protecting biodiversity and bees through the use of technology. Today, Pollenity is an innovator that uses honeybees as biosensors for environmental and biodiversity monitoring.
Sergey Petrov is the founder of Pollenity and he’s deeply motivated by a vision of bridging technology, agriculture, and environmental stewardship to create a system where business success and positive environmental impact are inseparable.
“Success, to me, means demonstrating that innovation can drive ecological restoration and prove financially sustainable at the same time. It means seeing biodiversity restored, beekeepers empowered, and companies actively participating in real, measurable environmental improvements.”
Pollenty was launched in 2025, and since then has grown considerably:
“Our most significant achievements include building a network of over 50 professional beekeepers in Bulgaria and Romania, launching successful projects with corporate clients such as Mastercard, Enery, and Asarel Medet, and developing proprietary technologies like the Beebot sensor device and HiHive weight scale.
We have also been honored with two awards from PwC’s ESG competition — for Best Biodiversity Strategy and the People’s Choice Award. Furthermore, Pollenity has successfully listed on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange's BEAM segment, strengthening its financial foundation.”
At the basis of building a strong company, Sergey says, was building strong, trust-based relationships between Pollenitiy and local beekeepers, considered key stakeholders and not just suppliers.
“This grassroots approach not only ensures quality and scalability but also creates authentic environmental impact, which resonates with our corporate partners and end users alike.
Feedback Pollenity receives is “overwhelmingly” positive, from both customers and beekeepers:
“Corporate clients appreciate the scientific rigor and scalability of our solutions, while beekeepers value the opportunity for additional income and environmental stewardship.
Our end users — both businesses and individual honey consumers — have praised our full transparency, traceability, and the authenticity we maintain in all operations.”
Sergey has big ambitions for Pollenity, aiming to create “the world’s largest user-generated biodiversity database using honeybees as environmental sensors.”
Their goals over the next 2 years include expansion in CEE, while also investing in tech development in environmental DNA analysis.
“Another strategic focus is developing biodiversity bonds (bio bonds) as a new financial instrument for conservation finance. We are also investing in partnerships with universities and expanding our role in corporate ESG ecosystems.” Sergey adds.
The technology they use also integrates AI, particularly for automating the analysis of pollen samples and environmental data
“Machine learning models assist us in identifying plant species from pollen DNA and detecting patterns in environmental changes over time.
In the future, we plan to expand the use of AI for predictive biodiversity analytics and personalized ESG impact reports for our clients.”
Finally, we wanted to learn what Sergey, as a representative of the social-impact driven startup ecosystem, think this community needs more in order to grow.
“More patient capital and long-term partnerships.
Building solutions that restore ecosystems or create deep social value often takes longer than traditional tech cycles. We need investors, partners, and policymakers who understand that true impact requires resilience, time, and strategic nurturing — not just quick returns.”
Thank you, Sergey Petrov!
